The ancient art of Taishun puppetry from Wenzhou, Zhejiang province was recently showcased at the 2024 Mauritius Dragon Boat Festival.
The event, held at Caudan Square in the capital of Port Louis, was a vibrant celebration of cultural exchange, jointly organized by the Mauritian Ministry of Arts and Cultural Heritage, the Chinese Embassy in Mauritius, and several Zhejiang cultural institutions.
The festival was attended by Marie Cyril Eddy Boissezon, vice-president of Mauritius, Zhu Liying, ambassador of China to Mauritius, and over 1,000 enthusiastic spectators. They witnessed the mesmerizing performances of Taishun puppeteers, who, with deft hands and intricate strings, brought to life many charming and elegant stories.
Taishun puppetry, a beloved part of Zhejiang's intangible cultural heritage, captivated the international audience with its unique storytelling and deep cultural roots.
This cultural showcase not only highlighted the rich tapestry of Chinese traditional arts but also strengthened the bonds between China and Mauritius, opening doors for further cultural dialogue and cooperation.
