In the first half of this year, Wenzhou's export of pre-packaged foods through market procurement exceeded 49 million yuan ($6.77 million), marking a 51-percent increase year-on-year, according to Wenzhou Customs. This significant growth has made pre-packaged foods an important contributor to Wenzhou's food exports.

Jiajing Trading Co Ltd recently declared a batch of market-procured pre-packaged foods for export to Wenzhou Customs. The batch included 10 types of foods, including biscuits, seasonings, nuts, beverages, and pastries, which are popular among overseas Chinese. "Compared to the first half of last year, our order volume has increased by 30 percent," said Xie Pengcheng, head of Jiajing Trading.

Unlike the general trade model, under which respective origin customs conduct inspection and quarantine, the market procurement model allows for flexible purchasing, assembly, declaration, inspection, and rapid customs clearance of pre-packaged foods from various origins across the country within the Wenzhou (Lucheng) market cluster.

"This year, we have included products like potato chips and cereals in the market procurement export range," said He Yezi from Wenzhou Customs.

Since the beginning of this year, Wenzhou Customs has expanded the range of products and export destinations. They have also combined market procurement with the "time-honored brands expanding market" initiative, actively seeking overseas demand for Wenzhou's specialty products.
