On Aug 4, Beijing time, the Chinese team, consisting of Xu Jiayu, Qin Haiyang, Zhang Yufei, and Yang Junxuan, narrowly missed gold, securing a silver medal in the mixed 4x100m medley relay at the Paris Olympics. Their time of 3 minutes and 37.55 seconds set a new Asian record.
Xu, from Wenzhou, Zhejiang province, swam an impressive 52.13 seconds in the opening backstroke leg, faster than his performance in the 100m backstroke final. The medal marks Xu's second at the Paris Olympics and his fourth across four Olympic Games.
According to the rules, Pan Zhanle, another Wenzhou athlete, who participated in the preliminaries, also earned a silver medal. In the preliminaries, Pan helped the team advance from seventh to second place, securing a spot in the final with a third-place overall finish.
