On the evening of Aug 7, Beijing time, Wenzhou athletes wrapped up their events at the Paris Olympics, achieving their best results in history with three golds, two silvers, and one bronze.
Wenzhou athletes Wen Zaiding, Huang Jingye, and Dai Qianqian finished 13th, 19th, and 23rd in their respective events. Although they did not win medals, they made history with their performances.
Wen achieved the best result for a Wenzhou sailor in Olympic history, finishing 13th in the 49er class sailing event. Dai became the first Wenzhou athlete to compete in Olympic track and field in 36 years, finishing 23rd in the womens javelin throw.
Wen, along with his partner Liu Tian, won the 49er class at the Hangzhou Asian Games. Despite the more intense competition at the Olympics, they reached the medal round and finished 13th, setting a new record for Wenzhou sailors.
Huang became the first Wenzhou athlete to compete in Olympic windsurfing, finishing 19th in the iQFOiL class.
Both Wen and Huang hail from Cangnan county. This marks the first time two Wenzhou athletes have competed in these Olympic events, both trained by the Wenzhou Water Sports Center.
