Four athletes from Wenzhou to compete in Paris Paralympics

The 17th Summer Paralympic Games will take place in Paris from Aug 28 to Sept 8. On Aug 16, the Chinese sports delegation for the Paris Paralympics was officially formed, including 284 athletes (126 men and 158 women) among its 516 members. 

Notably, four athletes from Wenzhou have been selected, the highest number from the city to date.

Hu Mingyao, in his second Paralympics, seeks to surpass his record of one silver medal during the Tokyo Olympics; veteran Xie Maosan, 38, hopes to make a name for herself in canoeing; while siblings Lin Naili and Lin Shuangbao, making their Paralympic debut, are determined to achieve their dreams.

Hu, born in 1995 in Yongjia, has limited vision but is physically gifted. At 14, he joined the provincial team for goalball. He and his teammates have won multiple national and international titles, including a silver medal at the 2021 Tokyo Paralympics and gold at the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Para Games.

Xie, who married a man from Taishun in 2010, became a professional canoeist through the Taishun Disabled Persons' Federation. She several major achievements to her name, including fifth place in the 200m event at the 2016 World Para Canoe Championships and gold at the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Para Games.

Lin Naili and Lin Shuangbao from Pingyang, Wenzhou, have also achieved significant success in para-badminton, winning multiple medals at the 2023 BWF Thailand and Bahrain Para-Badminton Championships and the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Para Games.
