Wenzhou's new energy industry recorded an 8.4-percent year-on-year growth rate in above-designated-size industrial output value during the first half of 2024, reflecting the city's efforts to become a national hub for new energy production and a model city for energy applications.
From January to June, Wenzhou added 427,800 kilowatts of new power generation capacity, bringing its total renewable energy capacity to 5.81 million kilowatts and accounting for 37.5 percent of the city's total.
The city's above-designated-size industrial added value in the new energy industry also saw a 20-percent increase, reaching 17.8 billion yuan ($2.49 billion).
Work on key projects progressed rapidly, including the Cangnan No 1 Phase II and Cangnan No 3 offshore wind power projects, which began construction earlier this year. The Taishun pumped storage project also broke ground in June.
Investment in the sector also surged, with 24 new projects valued at 32.47 billion yuan in total signed into effect. This includes 13 projects exceeding 1 billion yuan in investment, and one surpassing 100 billion yuan.
Additionally, Wenzhou upgraded 18 charging stations and installed 340 charging guns with a total investment of 40.45 million yuan.
Looking ahead, the city aims to achieve a 12.5-percent growth rate in the new energy sector's industrial output value by year-end, focusing on completing its comprehensive energy industry chain encompassing nuclear, wind, solar, hydro, hydrogen, and energy storage technologies.
