Zhoushan, a coastal city in in eastern Zhejiang province, recorded steady GDP growth of 8.1 percent in the first half of the year, with GDP for the period worth 64.54 billion yuan ($9.5 billion), the municipal bureau of statistics said on July 23.
Official statistics show that the added value of the city's primary industry recorded an increase of 4.4 percent to 4.84 billion yuan, among which the fishery industry rose 4.8 percent on an annualized basis. The total output of aquatic products reached 575,000 tons, up 5.9 percent year on year.
Driven by the green development of the petrochemical industry, Zhoushan achieved 11.37 billion yuan in the added value of its industries above designated size in the first six months, a year-on-year increase of 18.1 percent. Officials said the petroleum and chemicals industry, the cement and manufacturing industry, as well as the auto parts manufacturing were the major contributors.
They said that foreign trade remained a major support to the city's economy in the first half of the year. The total import and export volume reached 53.77 billion yuan, up 11.3 percent, compared with the same period last year. Exports accounted for 20.09 billion yuan, up 12.9 percent year-on-year, while imports rose 10.4 percent to 33.68 billion yuan.
