A shipping company from Shanghai recently relocated to Zhoushan without having to stop operations thanks to coordinated efforts between maritime authorities in Zhejiang and Shanghai.
"We are expected to save at least 30 million yuan ($4.26 million) during the relocation and license renewal," said a spokesman for Dongzhan Shipping Co, one of the top 10 chemical shipping companies in China.
The company decided to relocate to Putuo district in Zhoushan last year, seeing that the district accounts for 22 percent of the nation's chemical shipping capacity.
But inter-provincial relocation wasn't that easy previously, said the spokesman, explaining that for them, 216 licenses and certificates needed to be canceled in Shanghai before they obtained new ones in Zhejiang.
"The process meant ships had to halt operations for at least one and a half months," said the spokesman.
To reduce the loss incurred by companies, maritime authorities in Zhejiang and Shanghai have been working together to simplify the administrative procedures.
Through their joint efforts, Dongzhan Shipping was able to get its safety and pollution prevention certificate renewed within two days, and four of its ships had their licenses renewed during their operation intervals.
