Photovoltaic power generation promotes green development in Zhoushan

Updated : 2019-08-09 (chinadaily.com.cn)

Zhoushan in East China's Zhejiang province has been promoting photovoltaic power generation in recent years, which has greatly helped the city to save energy and reduce emissions.

PV solar cells have been used in many companies, industrial parks and residential buildings in the city.

According to Zhou Jianjun, general manager of a local machinery company, they introduced PV power generation in May 2018, and it had generated 403,100 kilowatt-hours of electricity as of July 19.

"The PV panels also have strong cooling effects, as they can insulate the heat and reduce temperatures by four to five degrees, which improves the working environment and reduces our electricity costs," said Zhou.

PV power generation also saves local residents money on electricity bills. "Previously I had to pay 100 yuan ($14.19) per month for electricity, but now the fee has been reduced to 45 yuan," said Huang Junqi, a local resident in Dapu village, Jintang town.

Statistics from the State Grid Zhoushan Co show that PV projects in the city had generated a total of around 83.65 million kWh of electricity as of July, reducing coal consumption by 27,600 metric tons and carbon dioxide emission by 71,800 tons.
