A lively camping festival drew enthusiastic crowds when it was held in a beach in Daidong town, Daishan county, Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, on Aug 24, attracting hordes of tourists from outside the city.

"This is the first time for me to come to Daishan. I love the sea and beach here. It's really a pleasant day for me," said a tourist from Ningbo, a neighboring city of Zhoushan.

In addition to the bands, there were a raft of entertainment facilities for children including a children's slide and a special fair selling fancy items such as hand-painted tattoos and knitted products.

"My friends and I were invited to the festival. We've come to Zhoushan many times. It's a beautiful place," said a tattoo shop owner from Hangzhou, capital of Zhejiang province.

"Camping by the sea is very interesting and I feel Daishan is less commercialized than many scenic spots in my hometown, making me feel more comfortable," said another tourist from Hangzhou.

According to Yue Ying, deputy chief of Daidong town, the festival is the second major tourism activity of the town during the summer tourism season, with the first being a fishing moratorium banquet held in June on Houbei'ao beach. 

"We will have a crab banquet in October to mark the end of the season," Yue said.
