Zhejiang's first joint innovation center, which will work to integrate 5G with the marine industry, was launched in Zhoushan by Zhejiang Ocean University and the Zhoushan branch of China Mobile on Aug 27.

According to the two sides, the center will help deepen cooperation, promote the application of 5G technologies in the marine industry, and build an ecological chain of 5G plus marine industry.

The university and the company will use 5G to help with marine research, including marine ranching, ship positioning and marine observation, and explore 5G's application in all-for-one tourism and green development of the petrochemical industry, among other areas.

All-for-one tourism refers to a concept that highlights the integration of tourism resources with other industries, such as hospitality industry and cultural and creative industry, in order to promote the transformation and upgrading of tourist destinations.

In addition, the two sides will build an industrial incubation platform in order to drive the development of marine related industries, including marine ecological protection, sea territory monitoring, and marine digital economy.

The company will help construct a 5G network in the university, making it the first university in Zhoushan to receive full 5G coverage. The goal is to transform the university into a national leader in terms of digitalization and marine industry, said Huang Jianping, general manager of the company.
