A series of activities celebrating Mid-Autumn Festival were held by the Humanities and Teacher Education College of Zhejiang Ocean University on Sept 13.
The activities attracted many foreign students from different countries, including Russia, Korea, Pakistan and Indonesia, among others. The students enjoyed a number of activities hosted mainly by Chinese students, learning how to make lanterns and mooncakes.
A Chinese lantern, often painted with Chinese motifs in various colors, is a common holiday decoration, while a mooncake is a Chinese bakery product which is regarded as an indispensable delicacy in Mid-Autumn Festival and a symbol of family reunion.
The Republic of Korea celebrates Chuseok, a festival similar to Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival, but it is not as rich in terms of cultural contents and activities, said two South Korean students.
Professor Han Weibiao, dean of the college, said that the activities can help improve students' understanding of Chinese traditional culture, share Chinese culture with foreign friends, and promote cultural exchange.
