Putuo district in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, has seen steady progress in its economic development, city construction and renovation, and improvement of people's wellbeing over the past decade.
Putuo has over the last 10 years been channeling resources towards developing its marine economy.
The district is currently home to a model base for the maintenance of vessels, and the base's experience has been included in the list of reform achievements by the State Council, China's Cabinet. These experiences could eventually be replicated and promoted nationwide.
Putuo has during the same period also made significant achievements in improving the living environments in its urban and rural areas, and this is a key reason why Zhoushan has made the list of the happiest cities in China for four consecutive years. The district is also a recipient of the "national garden city" and "national forest city" honors.
In terms of improving people’s wellbeing, authorities had launched a hospital ship on Aug 20 that provides medical services for residents of the remote islands. Fitness campaigns that involve marathon races have also been held over the past decade as part of efforts to improve people's health.
