A new species of macromycete was discovered in Putuo district, Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province in October 2021.

The species was named Boletellusputuoensis and the research on it was published in Phytotaxa, a professional journal of classification, in July this year.

According to a biodiversity survey carried out in March 2021, Putuo is currently home to 2,980 biological species, including 41 national-level new record species. This is largely because of Zhoushan's sustainability efforts over the past decade. 

The city has been maintaining its efforts to advance the creation of marine nature reserves and marine ranchings, and is presently home to three marine nature reserves, five national marine ranchings, and China's first green fishery experimental base. 

Meanwhile, the number of birds has grown from a few hundred to more than 13,000 in the Wuzhishan Nature Reserve. 

Grade I and Grade II sea water in Zhoushan's offshore areas accounted for 42.8 percent of the city's total, up 4.4 percent year-on-year. 

Zhoushan has also taken a series of measures like promoting the green transformation and upgrading of its fish meal and maintenance of vessels industries to improve the city's ecological environment during the same period. 

In addition, Zhoushan has been tapping its ecological resources to develop rural tourism. 

The city's Xinjian village has won honors including "National Civilization Village", "China's most beautiful village for leisure", and "National beautiful and livable villages". The village now generates an annual tourism revenue of more than 26 million yuan ($3.61 million).
