Residential houses on Huaniao Island in Shengsi county, Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, have been listed among provincial classic models by the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Housing and Urban-Rural Development.

Ten examples from seven cities in the province made the list.

Building the residential houses are part of efforts by authorities to implement the Green Rural Revival Program and drive rural vitalization, which includes preservation and utilization of traditional residential houses, renovation and upgrading of farmhouses, and construction of modern residential buildings.

Huaniao Island, which has a land area of 3.28 square meters and 17.16 kilometers of coastline, has followed the sustainable development philosophy through a series of actions such as controlling the number of vehicles, treating garbage properly during the travel peak season, replacing bubble floating balls with environmentally friendly floating balls, and encouraging homestays not to provide disposable toiletries.

Authorities have also been focusing on top-down designs to have a better layout on the island that features boutique homestays, hotels, fishing villages and a business area.

In addition, the island has rolled out customized travel services to provide better experience to tourists, which will in turn bolster its tourism industry.
