In 2024, Ningbo-Zhoushan Port achieved an impressive cargo throughput of 1.37 billion metric tons, a 4-percent increase from the previous year, which secured its position as the world's leader in cargo throughput for the 16th consecutive year.

The port also handled 39.3 million twenty-foot equivalent unit (TEU) containers, an 11-percent rise, marking the highest growth in seven years and ranking third globally in container throughput.

Ningbo-Zhoushan Port accelerated its infrastructure projects throughout 2024, enhancing its operational capacity. Notably, the Shulanghu ore transfer terminal extension welcomed the world's first simultaneous docking and unloading of two 400,000-ton ships. Additionally, the Meishan Port Area's No 10 Berth began operations, pushing the annual container throughput past 10 million TEUs, making Ningbo-Zhoushan the only port with two such high-capacity terminals.

The port faced challenges like disruptions in global shipping routes but improved its capacity and network, maintaining over 300 routes and launching the fastest direct route from the Yangtze River Delta to Europe.

Its logistics network grew significantly, handling over 1.8 million TEUs in sea-rail intermodal transport in 2024 with fixed schedules increasing to 27 lines, covering 67 cities in 16 provinces.

In recent years, the port has also focused on intelligent and green construction, advancing automation and promoting low-carbon technologies. It is home to the world's only standalone automated container terminal with an annual throughput exceeding 10 million TEUs, capable of mixed operations, as well as the world's only automated bulk cargo terminal with dual 400,000-ton capacities located on an offshore island.
