Zhoushan welcomed 5.6 million tourists in the first quarter, marking a 15.2 percent year-on-year increase, with tourism revenue reaching 83.3 billion yuan ($11.40 billion), a 21.3 percent increase compared to the previous year, Zhoushan municipal bureau of culture, radio, film, television, tourism and sports announced on April 21 of this year.

Throughout the Spring Festival holiday, the city received over 1.84 million tourists, with 27,800 of those being part of 2,594 tour groups.

Key cultural and tourism projects such as the Zhoushan Changqiao Ocean International Tourist Resort have developed their operations, ensuring a steady flow of visitors even during traditional off-peak seasons, leading to rapid growth in tourist numbers. Sporting events have also boosted tourism in the island city.

With changing tourist preferences, experiences that deeply integrate local island life have gained popularity, promoting the development of new formats like camping, barbecue, and pet-friendly activities.

Additionally, Zhoushan accommodated 3.81 million overnight tourists in the first quarter, marking a 21.6 percent year-on-year increase.
