Nine international seafarers visited IMC Shipyard (Zhoushan) Co Ltd to explore the newly established Marine Culture Station on the 21st Maritime Day of China, July 11, in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province.
Through hands-on folk-art activities and local food tastings, the group received an immersive introduction to Zhoushan's marine heritage and coastal lifestyle.
The visiting crew, currently stationed in Zhoushan for vessel maintenance, welcomed the opportunity to connect with the local culture. MD. Mahabub Hasan Pranto from Bangladesh said that the station is a great initiative, which allows them to quickly learn about Zhoushan's fishing traditions and feel closer to the local community. Their Philippine-flagged vessel is undergoing a 15-day repair at the shipyard.
The cultural station serves as both a relaxation space and a platform for regular cross-cultural exchange events. Open to visiting seafarers, it offers a comfortable environment for recreation and learning during shore leave.
Leveraging its robust ship repair industry, Zhoushan has launched a series of maritime culture stations in collaboration with immigration and port authorities. Ten have been completed so far, with more planned for the second half of the year.
