Zhoushan's waxberry set for first export

Updated : 2025-08-15 (chinadaily.com.cn)

Zhejiang Xianjing Meilin — a company based in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province — recently obtained registration as an export orchard, achieving a milestone in Zhoushan's fruit trade.

Its product — the Dengbu waxberry grown on Dengbu Island in Zhoushan — is poised to enter overseas markets next summer, marking the city's first exports of fresh fruit.

While export standards are stricter, the company believes the fruit's quality and flavor will secure it strong prices. In recent years, the city's Putuo district has supported shipments of Dengbu waxberries with technological upgrades, improved services, and faster logistics to deliver them fresh to markets across China.

The company's facilities now include five mountain monorail lines and one cableway — introduced to address transport challenges on the island, reduce costs, and increase efficiency.

Five integrated fertigation systems allow precise irrigation, and dual cold-storage facilities ensure post-harvest freshness.

The Dengbu Island administrative committee has worked closely with Zhoushan Customs to streamline the export process, moving service points closer to producers.

Meanwhile, authorities have guided the orchard in meeting target market access requirements, establishing quality and hygiene control systems, implementing traceability and strengthening pest and pesticide residue management.
