The Singapore-flagged bulk carrier Winning Youth arrived at the Majishan port area in Zhoushan, East China's Zhejiang province, on Jan 17, carrying 200,000 metric tons of high-grade iron ore from the Simandou mine in Guinea, Africa.

This marks the arrival of the first shipment of iron ore from the Simandou project to China and underscores Zhoushan's growing role as a national hub for bulk commodity trading and allocation. It also highlights the city's increasing importance in global resource supply chains as a storage, transshipment, and trading base.

The Simandou iron ore project in Guinea is a world-class, high-quality open-pit deposit, with over 4 billion tons of ore and an average iron content exceeding 65 percent.

The vessel departed from the Morebaya port area in Guinea on Dec 3, 2025, and its arrival at Majishan port area marks the entry of the Simandou project into its commercial operation stage. The ship will unload approximately 110,000 tons of iron ore at the Majishan port area, before continuing to Rizhao Port in Shandong province to offload the remaining cargo.

Located in Zhoushan, the Majishan port area is part of Ningbo-Zhoushan Port and a key iron ore transshipment hub, with an annual throughput capacity of about 60 million tons, acting as a vital gateway for global iron ore shipping to China.
