The fifth Wuzhen Theatre Festival will take place in Wuzhen, Zhejiang province, on Oct 19-29. It was announced during the news conference held in the Wuzhen Grand Theatre on Aug 19.

The theme of this year's Wuzhen Theatre Festival is "Luminosity". "Luminosity" is a word related to brightness and clarity. This 11-day festival aims to become a grand celebration for performing arts.

The Wuzhen Theatre Festival is an annual theatre event co-founded by Chen Xianghong, Huang Lei, Stan Lai and Meng Jinghui, and organized by Culture Wuzhen Co., Ltd.

Starting in 2013, after exploring the idea for four years, 2017 Wuzhen Theatre Festival is on its way to becoming a theatre with great impact.

The entire town of Wuzhen, which has a history of more than 1,300 years, will be transformed into a splendid stage, and theatre lovers all over the world are invited to enjoy, and participate in this tantalizing feast of the theatrical arts.

The fifth Wuzhen Theatre Festival consists of various inter-related parts: the Specially Invited Plays, the Young Theatre Artist's Competition, the Outdoor Carnival, the Wuzhen Dialogues, and the Theatre Forums.

Using the themes of "Moon", "Knife" and "Umbrella", the Young Theatre Artist's Competition attracts numerous creative groups competing with brand new works. 18 teams from 477 applications will show their works demonstrating their impressive energy and creative talent.

A nonstop outdoor carnival, with its dazzling and delightful features will make Wuzhen an adventure not worth missing.

The Wuzhen Dialogues are an integral part of the festival, a platform that allows all artists to exchange their thoughts and ideas on theatre and creativity, China and the entire world, and the past and the future. The Dialogues are free to the public.

Along with the Wuzhen Dialogues and Workshops, the Theatre Forums, will offer opportunities for all theatre lovers to engage with Chinese and international theatre masters.

Specially invited plays from 12 countries and regions will showcase 100 shows during the festival, including five series titled classic, women, influence, body and new voice.
