Yiwu in East China's Zhejiang province brought in 18 projects and a total planned investment of 29 billion yuan ($4.57 billion) at the third World Yiwu Entrepreneurs Convention on Feb 21.

The city has been dubbed the "world supermarket" for its wholesale goods market.

These projects, from various fields including fashion, information, logistics, education and finance, made a good start for the city to attract businesses and investments in the coming year.

"In the past year, Yiwu promoted the 'Return of Zhejiang Merchants' campaign," said an official from the city government, pointing out that a few major projects have settled in Yiwu and become a strong driving force to the transformation and upgrading of local industries.

So far, Yiwu has built five platforms with different features such as the high-tech zone focusing on information and optoelectronics, the national development zone centering on automobile manufacturing and health, and a commercial trade zone with an industrial chain of logistics, express delivery and e-commerce.
