Zhejiang sees significant trade growth

Particularly high growth in exports was seen in Zhejiang's high-tech industries. Between January and July, the province's exports of machinery and electronic products stood at 590.59 billion yuan, up 7.6 percent year-on-year; while its exports of high-tech products were 105.26 billion yuan, up 18.8 percent year-on-year. Zhejiang's growth rate in high-tech product exports has been leading the Yangtze River Delta region, which consists of Zhejiang, Jiangsu, and Anhui provinces as well as Shanghai municipality, since March.

The highest growth rates in imports were seen in bulk commodities and consumer goods.

Between January and July, Zhejiang imported 13.85 million metric tons of crude oil and 646,000 tons of unprocessed copper material, up 890 percent and 92.3 percent respectively from the previous year. The increased imports of the two commodities contributed 8.4 percentage points of the growth rate in overall imports.

Zhejiang also imported 46.7 billion yuan worth of consumer goods, up 27.5 percent year-on-year. Imports of cosmetics, meat, and milk powder surged by 49.7 percent, 190 percent, and 31.8 percent respectively.

Privately-owned companies conducted a total foreign trade of 1.36 trillion yuan, up 9.3 percent year-on-year. Their contribution rate to the province's overall trade volume rose by 2.5 percentage points to 75.3 percent.
