East China's Zhejiang province plans to implement the country's first regulations on promoting the digital economy on March 1, 2021, according to a notification released on Dec 24.

The regulations are directed at the planning and construction of digital economy infrastructure and making provisions for the sharing of digital resources and the development and commercialization of digital industries.

The construction of basic infrastructure in mountainous areas and islands is stressed in the document.

Zhejiang is determined to lessen the divide between developed and underdeveloped regions in terms of digital economy. Since the beginning of this year, the province has rolled out several plans for the development of new infrastructure such as 5G bases, and mountainous areas, islands, and villages are receiving more attention in official plans.

In addition, to help senior citizens benefit from the digital economy, Zhejiang plans to ramp up efforts to deal with difficulties in utilizing intelligent technologies in transportation, medical care, entertainment, consumption, and government affairs by better combining traditional services and digital technologies, according to the regulations.
