The Zhejiang provincial government recently announced that it would earmark a fund of 2.1 billion yuan ($323.4 million) for 409 investment programs that would be rolled out in Aksu prefecture and Alar city in Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region this year, according to local media reports.

In 2010, the central government instructed 19 relatively prosperous provinces and municipalities, including Zhejiang province, to provide economic assistance to targeted localities in Xinjiang. Zhejiang has since been relentlessly supporting the socioeconomic development of Aksu and Alar, spending more than 15 billion yuan so far.

The funding this year will be used to sponsor the development of the local industry, people's livelihoods, education, healthcare, culture, and human resources.

The Zhejiang provincial government stressed that it will focus on rural rejuvenation and job creation in Aksu and Alar as part of efforts to build a long-term mechanism to help solidify and improve what these areas have already achieved in poverty alleviation.
