The first Hangzhou Citizen Day, with the tagline "Digital Hangzhou, Happy Hangzhou", will feature a series of celebrations on May 3, local media outlets reported.
The day, established by the local government last December, was meant to commemorate the liberation of Hangzhou on May 3, 1949 and celebrate the city's achievements over the past 72 years.
Here are some can't miss events that will be held on the day.
A total of 72 citizens who share the same birthday with Hangzhou will be invited to the opening ceremony of the 1st Hangzhou Citizen Day. In addition to sharing a cake and singing Happy Birthday, what else can we expect?
Hangzhou residents will receive a certificate after running in the shape of a rose or a heart on Citizen Day. Recommended routes feature West Lake, the Grand Canal, Qiantang River, Wushan Mountain, Yuhuang Mountain, and the colorful jogging track along Xianghu Lake.
A shopping festival with hundreds of merchants ready to offer over 10 million yuan ($1.54 million) in discounts will also open on May 3.
A number of limited-time special sales will also be on offer, including 72 tickets for X: The Land of Fantasy, a famous performance produced by Cirque du Soleil; 72 gift cards for Cai Jia French Dessert; 20 parent-child plays from More Fun Drama; and three-hour karaoke coupons offered by Inlove.
A variety of routes themed around environmental preservation, future factories, and digital transformation will be launched to teach locals about Hangzhou.
