It is well known that serotonin, dopamine, and endorphins are the three most important chemicals affecting people's sense of happiness.

Serotonin, also known as 5-HT, is a kind of messenger molecule that is able to generate feeling of happiness in the human body. Therefore, it is called the "happiness hormone." A lack of serotonin may cause depression.

Many scientists have been exploring how serotonin makes people feel happy, but the biological mechanism behind it has still been not unlocked.

In recent years, researchers from the Zhejiang University School of Medicine, the Liangzhu Laboratory, and the Zhejiang University Medical Center have successfully elaborated the mechanism in which serotonin and chemicals function in the human body.

The finding was recently published in Nature, a world-class science journal. Researchers say that the finding may be helpful for medical development when it comes to the choice of accurate targets.

Zhang Yan, one of the researchers of the finding, said that people can regulate their negative emotion by developing regular living routines and a positive attitude towards life, being physically active, as well as developing healthy habits to improve the level of serotonin and dopamine in their body.

He also said that an appropriate intake of sweet food is also helpful for making people happier.
