East China's Zhejiang province will step up COVID-19 epidemic prevention and control measures for those entering the province from high-risk countries and regions, such as India, according to a news briefing in the provincial capital of Hangzhou on May 10.

The province's health management measure for inbound personnel, or the "14 + 7" mechanism, will be more rigorously implemented for those coming from high- risk countries and regions. The list of such countries and regions will be ascertained and constantly adjusted by the Zhejiang authorities based on a comprehensive analysis of their scale and growth rate of COVID-10 cases, infected percentage of population, frequency of interactions with Zhejiang, and other factors.

The "14 + 7" mechanism refers to a 14-day quarantine and a seven-day health observation at home, with one round of nucleic acid testing conducted after each period.

Inbound personnel from high-risk countries and regions are required to go through more nucleic acid tests during the 14-day quarantine. During the seven-day health observation at home, they have to report to the residential community before leaving their homes. Should they leave their homes, they are required to wear face masks, prohibited from taking public transit, and discouraged from visiting crowded places.
