A total of 874,000 trademark applications were made in East China's Zhejiang province in 2020, up 19.2 percent from the previous year, according to the Development Report on Zhejiang's Trademarks and Brands (2020), released by the Zhejiang Administration for Market Regulation on May 10.

The province added 566,000 registered trademarks in 2020, increasing its total to 2.975 million. Both figures were the second highest among all provinces in China.

Zhejiang enterprises registered 740 trademarks via the Madrid System last year, accounting for nearly 10 percent of the national aggregate.

Last year's addition of registered pledged trademarks in Zhejiang stood at 903, up 54.89 percent year-on-year, topping all Chinese provinces for the fifth consecutive year. The pledged trademarks delivered a financing of 20.054 billion yuan ($3.1 billion) for Zhejiang enterprises, the highest among all Chinese provinces, surging 120.92 percent year-on-year. The amount of financing last year made up nearly a third of the national aggregate.

Zhejiang topped all other provincial-level regions in the China Trademark and Brands Development Index (2020), which was released by the China Trademark Association at a sideline forum during the third China International Import Expo last November.
