Zhejiang Gongshang University celebrates 110th anniversary

Zhejiang Gongshang University, located in Hangzhou, capital of East China's Zhejiang province, hosted a convention to celebrate its 110th anniversary on Nov 29.

The university's predecessor, Hangzhou Business School, was founded in 1911 as one of the nation's five business schools affiliated with the commerce ministry. The university started to adopt the current name in 2004 and became co-sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce, the Ministry of Education, and the Zhejiang provincial government in 2015.

The university is engaged in the education and research of nine disciplines: economics, management, law, literature, natural sciences, engineering, history, philosophy, and art. It currently has 25,500 undergraduates, 5,400 postgraduate students, and 980 overseas students.

The university's strongest academic programs are statistics, business administration, applied economics, foreign languages and literature, food science and engineering, jurisprudence, and computer science.

David Maguire, vice-chancellor of University of Sussex in the United Kingdom, sent his congratulations to the convention through a video call. The British university and Zhejiang Gongshang University cooperated in founding the Sussex Artificial Intelligence Institute on the latter's campus in 2020.

Zhejiang Gongshang University also received congratulatory letters from over 100 institutes including Zhejiang University, Renmin University of China, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, University of Macau, Shanghai University of Finance and Economic, Central University of Finance and Economics, and University of International Business and Economics.
