Hangzhou, capital of East China's Zhejiang province held its first online exchange with Cartagena, Colombia on March 11, local media outlets reported.

Delegates from Hangzhou suggested the two cities carry out in-depth exchanges in the fields of education, culture and tourism, and cross-border e-commerce through inter-school exchanges, friendship libraries, e-commerce training, and two-way tourism promotions.

The two cities also discussed preparations for the signing of a Memorandum of Friendship and Cooperation.

"We have a strong interest in the cooperation areas proposed by Hangzhou and are willing to push forward the process of signing the memorandum as soon as possible," said Sophia Archbold, an official of international relations from Cartagena.

Cartagena, which has been dubbed as "the Miami of South America", is the capital of Colombia's Bolivar Province and a popular tourist destination. The historical site consists of ports, castles and monuments that are inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List in 1984.

A delegation of Hangzhou officials previously visited Cartagena in 2015 to explore possibilities of promoting culture and tourism between the two cities.
