Zhejiang's foreign trade grows by 18.1 percent in first two months of 2024

The total value of Zhejiang's imports and exports for January and February reached 816.87 billion yuan ($113.48 billion), an increase of 18.1 percent year-on-year, according to the latest figures released by Hangzhou Customs.

Exports amounted to 599.10 billion yuan, up 19.5 percent, while imports reached 217.77 billion yuan, a 14.6-percent increase. Zhejiang accounted for 12.4 percent of China's total foreign trade, 16.0 percent of its exports, and 7.6 percent of its imports, ranking 3rd, 2nd, and 5th nationwide, respectively.

In the first two months, Zhejiang's trade with emerging markets such as ASEAN, the Middle East, Latin America, and Africa grew to 105.27 billion yuan, 100.06 billion yuan, 93.05 billion yuan, and 65.97 billion yuan, respectively, rising 12.7 percent, 19.1 percent, 33.6 percent, and 32.3 percent.

Meanwhile, the province's trade with countries along the Belt and Road reached 427.34 billion yuan during the same period, a 19.6-percent increase.

In the first two months, Zhejiang's exports of electromechanical products amounted to 281.46 billion yuan, up 21.5 percent, surpassing the national average by 9.7 percentage points. Its exports accounted for 47 percent of the province's total exports, up by 0.8 percentage points.

Imports of energy products and metal ores in Zhejiang increased by 6.7 percent and 50.7 percent, respectively, totaling 71.52 billion yuan, contributing to an 8.1 percentage point increase in the province's total imports. Imports of high-tech products reached 15.08 billion yuan, up by 12.8 percent.

In the same period, Zhejiang's general trade imports and exports reached 633.39 billion yuan, up by 16.3 percent and accounting for 77.5 percent of the province's total imports and exports. Market procurement exports reached 89.49 billion yuan, up by 32.6 percent, surpassing the national average by 16.6 percentage points and contributing to a 4.4 percentage point increase in the province's total exports.
