The R&D center for paper used for the traditional art of Chinese calligraphy made in Kaihua county, which is administered by Quzhou, East China's Zhejiang province, was recognized as council member of the Ancient Books Preservation and Conservation Association of China (ABPCAC), according to local media reports on Jan 6.

Brushes, ink, paper, and ink stones are known as the "essential four" for the traditional art of Chinese calligraphy. The paper has proven to be an eye-catching exhibit among calligraphy fans visiting the expo.

Kaihua paper has a long history and boasts distinctive regional characteristics. It makes a rich variety of finished products including scribbling, colored, and specialized paper. The paper is not only suitable for painting and calligraphy, but also widely used in packaging and decoration.

The R&D center has been committed to Kaihua paper traditional artistry excavation and research, after years of efforts, the traditional handmade paper has been arounf for 2,825 years promoting cultural inheritance and the protection of paper business.

"Be selected, it is considered both encouragement and expectation for the research work of Kaihua paper!" said Huang Hongjian who is in charge of the center.
