Quzhou leaf painting

Quzhou leaf painting was included on the intangible cultural heritage list of Quzhou in 2010.

Quzhou leaf painting integrates calligraphy, painting, paper engraving, embroidery and treatment of plant leaves to create a unique work.

Quzhou leaf painting originated in 1888 and Yang Yuanfeng is the fourth generation of representative inheritor of leaf painting in Quzhou.

Quzhou leaf painting is a part of Quzhou's traditional culture after several generations of development and innovation.

"My grandfather, Yang Gentu, inherited the art of leaf painting and was inspired by my grandmother's embroidery skills after he got married. He combined paper engraving and embroidery skills to create a unique three-dimensional leaf embroidery painting," said Yang Yuanfeng.

Three-dimensional leaf painting consists of 11 processes, including leaf selection, oil immersion, drying and pressing, paste mixing, leaf protection, drawing, engraving, printing, embroidery, soaking, drying, and mounting.

Yang has developed technology to print customers' photos on leaves and leaf veins and make unique personalized leaf photos and leaf vein photos.

Over the past 20 years, he has applied to the State Intellectual Property Office for more than 30 practical models and invention patents related to leaf art culture.
