The first Zhejiang Paper-based New Materials Industry Innovation and Development Conference was held in Longyou county, Quzhou, Zhejiang province on March 29.

Representatives from paper-based new materials-related enterprises, universities, research institutes, and industry associations from both inside and outside the province attended the event.

The conference aimed to explore a new integrated development model that combines industrial upgrading, technological innovation, talent cultivation, and policy support.

The Longyou Green Paper-based New Materials Industrial Institute of Zhejiang University of Science and Technology was unveiled during the event, and a series of projects related to energy-saving and carbon-reduction, product development, and the postdoctoral talent training was also secured.

Paper-based new materials possess recyclable, re-pulpable, and biodegradable characteristics, making them one of the key materials to replace petroleum-based products in the future and representing a crucial direction for the transformation and upgrading of China's paper industry, noted Yao Xianping, an academician from the National Academy of Paper Chemical Engineering Technology Research Center.

Longyou has in recent years designated carbon-based and paper-based new materials as its two leading industries. In addition to establishing centralized power supply, sewage treatment, waste heat recovery, and recycled water facilities, efforts are also underway to construct a pulp logistics center and a specialty paper storage center, aiming to reduce enterprise costs.
