Kecheng district in Quzhou, Zhejiang province has in recent years been making efforts to advance its optoelectronic industry.

Since 2021, local authorities have been collaborating with the optoelectronic industry in Shenzhen, resulting in the successful establishment of 10 optoelectronic projects, including Dongjukang, Yuansen, and Hangdian, with a total agreed investment of approximately 20.27 billion yuan ($2.80 billion).

These projects encompass a wide range of products such as thin-film glass, chip packaging, modules, cover plates, and complete machines, forming an initial industrial cluster supported by a group of upstream and downstream enterprises.

Liu Jianwen, the head of Quzhou Dongjukang Optoelectronic Technology Co, highlighted that his company has introduced an OLED screen production line from Shenzhen which is projected to generate an additional annual output value of 200 million yuan.

Authorities have also rolled out favorable policies to encourage optoelectronic enterprises to pursue innovation. Quzhou Yuansen Optoelectronic Technology Co is one of the pioneers which has introduced advanced equipment such as fully automatic magnetic levitation-shaped cutting machines, fully automatic laser cutting machines, and automatic soldering machines.

The district is also focusing on attracting high-quality projects, with a cutting-edge laser project secured in March. The project will be carried out by Ph.D. graduates from the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences and the University of Electronic Science and Technology of China.

In addition, authorities are planning to construct an Entrepreneurship and Innovation Building for the optoelectronic industry, which will cover an area of approximately 30 mu (2 hectares). The lower levels of the building will serve as a comprehensive showcase for innovative products and a trading market, while the upper levels will be designated for the introduction of universities and research institutions to set up laboratories.

In 2023, Kecheng's 30 industrial enterprises above a designated size achieved a total output value of 4.05 billion yuan, marking a significant year-on-year growth of 45.8 percent. The optoelectronic industry contributed an output value of 1.95 billion yuan for the district, accounting for nearly half of the total.
