Over the past few years, Jiaxing has made significant progress in the construction of a number of cultural facilities, with 791 cultural auditoriums being built throughout the city's villages in an effort to enrich the spiritual and cultural lives of people in rural areas, Zhejiang Daily reported on Jan 18.

Since 2013, Jiaxing has invested about 1.05 billion yuan ($152.8 million) into the building of cultural auditoriums, with 791 being built throughout the city, making it the first city in Zhejiang to have such an auditorium in every single one of its villages.

Cultural auditoriums in Jiaxing have grown into a sort of spiritual home for rural residents, and are meant to help preserve traditional Chinese culture.

In recent years, Zhejiang has devoted a lot of effort to the promotion of rural revitalization, and in 2013, the province set a goal of building 1,000 public cultural auditoriums in all of its villages.

Jiaxing implemented a five-year action plan (2013-17) on the construction of cultural auditoriums in rural areas, noting that villages should adjust their measures based on local conditions.

Cultural auditoriums in Jiaxing have become one of the city's most popular attractions and are ideal places for villagers to hold cultural events. A total of 35,000 activities are held at the auditoriums every year, benefiting nearly 1 million villagers.
