The architectural and urban designs for the Yangtze River Delta International Medical Center were released at a conference held in Jiaxing, East China's Zhejiang province, on Sept 16.

The Jiaxing municipal government proposed the construction of the center last year and started soliciting architectural and urban design plans from around the world on Aug 20.

A total of 49 design firms, including 18 overseas ones, from nine countries formed 20 project teams and have submitted their plans. The plans from five teams that passed the preliminary selection were presented at the conference.

The first-phase project for the Yangtze River Delta International Medical Center is a new campus for the Jiaxing No. 2 Hospital, which will serve as the general hospital for the center. The hospital will have a floor space of 451,000 square meters and 2,200 beds. In the next phases, the center will add medical research centers and specialized hospitals in numerous fields including oncology, pediatrics, and rehabilitation.

Shen Ruilin, an official of the Jiaxing No. 2 Hospital, said that the center will adopt the highest standards in China and beyond in terms of general capacity, medical facilities, service quality, as well as talent recruitment and training.
