The fifth Filial Piety Festival was held in Shangyu district, East China's Zhejiang province from May 20 to 21.

Participants from universities, institutes, and government departments shared their ideas on how the traditional value of filial piety can be promoted and adapted in the new era.

The topics included "filial piety, social governance, and digitalization reform," "filial piety's role in rural revitalization," and "promoting filial piety with an aging population."

Filial piety-themed education bases, media centers, residence communities, and charity foundations were also unveiled at the opening ceremony.

Shangyu is a notable city in China's traditional value of filial piety. In the Eastern Han Dynasty (25-220), Shangyu native Cao'e sacrificed her life to find her drowned father's body. To honor her, people volunteered to build a stone tablet near a river, which was later named after her by the emperor.

The Filial Piety Festival has be held four times since 2017 and has developed into a cultural signal for Chinese people at home or abroad.
