The Luzhen scenic area in Shaoxing was recently recognized as one of the five provincial tourism performance clusters by the Zhejiang Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism.

The local government had built the scenic area based on Luzhen, which was a fictional town mentioned in the works of literary master Lu Xun.

Lu Xun (1881-1936), whose real name was Zhou Shuren, played a key role in the New Culture Movement from the 1910s to 1920s that widely inspired the Chinese public. His 1918 short story A Madman's Diary is seen as the first modern work written in vernacular Chinese.

Lu gained a wider reach with an English-speaking audience after the Penguin translation of his works was published in 2009. His former residence is another must-visit site in the scenic area.

The scenic area's original drama featuring Lu's novel Village Opera was performed over 600 times to more than 200,000 tourists in 2022.
