Shaoxing has emerged as Zhejiang’s leader in social consumption retail sales and foreign trade export growth for the period of January to May, local media reported on June 26.

During the first five months, the total retail sales of social consumer goods in the city increased by 12.4 percent, surpassing the provincial average by 2.2 percentage points and taking the top spot in the province. The wholesale, retail, and catering industries experienced sales growth of 30.1 percent, 15.8 percent, and 26.8 percent, respectively.

Moreover, 182 delegations consisting of 1,581 enterprises participated in overseas exhibitions during the Jan-May period. The city saw a total intended transaction amount of approximately $925 million.

Shaoxing's exports were valued at 159.12 billion yuan ($22.04 billion), representing a growth rate of 26.1 percent, outperforming the provincial average by 17.3 percentage points and ranking first in the province.

In the same period, 47,600 new market entities were established, which marked an increase of 1.2 percent. Among them, there were 12,700 new enterprises, an increase of 3.0 percent.

Additionally, from January to May, 37 industrial projects worth over 1 billion yuan were introduced to the city, including 11 projects with investment exceeding 5 billion yuan and six projects exceeding 10 billion yuan.
