China to encourage business investment in Spain
The Chinese government is willing to encourage domestic companies to invest in Spain as the two countries are seeking to boost bilateral ties, President Xi Jinping said on Monday.
Xi made the remarks while meeting with Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy during the sidelines of the ongoing G20 summit in Hangzhou.
The two countries should make full use of the Yiwu-Madrid cargo train to continuously enlarge trade volume, Xi said, adding that the people-to-people exchanges and local-level communication should also be strengthened.
Xi called on both sides to support and understand each other on issues related to their core interests.
The Chinese president spoke highly of the Spanish government's support toward the Belt and Road Initiative, saying the two countries should cooperate more in areas such as finance, telecommunication and renewable resources.
China hopes and supports the European Union to remain stable and prosperous, Xi said, adding that Spain as expected to play a positive role in improving the China-Spain relationship.
Spain spoke positively of China's efforts in dealing with current economic challenges, Rajoy said, adding that Spain supported China to host a successful G20 summit in Hangzhou.
Spain is willing to enhance communication with China and develop trade, investment, culture and education, he added.
