Zhejiang University, Alibaba sign cooperation agreement

Zhejiang University, a leading Chinese university based in Hangzhou, and China e-commerce giant Alibaba Group signed a framework agreement on May 31 promising further cooperation in cutting-edge technologies. The deal represents two innovative East China entities working together for the betterment of science and innovation.
According to the agreement, the two sides will focus on future-oriented core technologies including artificial intelligence and information security. The agreement also seeks to promote all-round cooperation ranging from talent cultivation to joint research.
Among the positive announcements is the development of a research center that will launch a global recruitment program to attract leading international scientists across a range of different sectors. Hired researchers will work for both Zhejiang University and Alibaba.
One of the exciting benefits of the program will be the opportunities for exchange and mutual support with technical experts from Alibaba able to give study and career advice to Zhejiang University students.
Feng Fei, vice governor of Zhejiang province, addressed the signing ceremony and stated his hope that Zhejiang University and Alibaba Group will work towards achieving the needs of the nation. Feng also believes Alibaba and Zhejiang University should try to develop a world-class cluster of science-focused institutes that carry out research and promote innovation.
