The lab has been established as part of the Well-China project, which Stanford and ZJU are jointly running. The project is providing 10,000 permanent residents in Hangzhou's Xihu district with medical examinations worth over $220 and setting up electronic health records for them so as to monitor their health over the next ten years.

During the next ten years, respondents may interact with specialists and get professional feedback and guidance on a dedicated website called well-china.com. The project is aimed at attracting more outstanding talents, combining learning, production, and research, and establishing a health data platform.

The two universities' materials science departments also signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation. ZJU's College of Management and Institute of Industrial Technology Transformation also confirmed an agreement to work with the Stanford Center for International Development on innovation and startups.

The agreements will help boost undergraduate academic exchanges between the two universities, create new post doctorate degrees jointly run by Stanford and ZJU, and arrange symposiums on materials science.

The two organizations will also deepen their collaboration on innovation and startup training, and will co-organize the ZJU-Stanford Innovation and Startups Forum.

Zhejiang Tongze Holding Group has donated $14.67 million to support the cooperation and exchanges between ZJU and Stanford.

Wang Yang, the executive dean of the Institute of International Innovation of ZJU, also announced that the Silicon Valley Innovation Center will be founded in August this year.

Professor Michael Levitt delivered a speech and shared his insights into basic science after the launch ceremony.
