A group of vascular surgeons from countries involved in the Belt and Road Initiative -- including Sri Lanka, India and Australia -- learned internationally advanced surgery skills at the Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province on June 23.

SRRSH enjoys a good reputation in the world for its prowess in treating to varicosity, the varicose condition in which vein are swollen and painful, mostly commonly with leg veins. The hospital in particular, has won plaudits for its comprehensive minimally invasive surgeries and ambulatory surgeries.

Zhu Yuefeng, vice chief surgeon at the vascular center of the hospital, operated a surgery on that day. Observers said his flawless performance was remarked on by the foreign visitors.

One visitor from Sri Lanka spoke highly of the hospital's management system, saying that thanks to the visit, he and his colleagues had learned that the introduction of ambulatory surgery to a hospital was not only about the improvement of skills, but was also closely related to an efficient management system.

Ambulatory surgery does not require an overnight stay in a hospital, which means that all procedures should be planned well in advance to ensure necessary diagnostic tests are completed.

Visitors were informed that SRRSH is one of the first hospitals in Zhejiang to have introduced this type of surgical procedure.

Cai Xiujun, president of the hospital, said SRRSH was committed to exchanges of medical skills with other institutions around the world.

As an advanced hospital with international links, SRRSH has so far attracted more than 10,000 doctors from BRI countries and regions to take training courses there.
