Parks to preserve cultural relics of Great Wall, Grand Canal and Long March
The General Office of the CPC Central Committee and the General Office of the State Council recently issued a plan to build national cultural parks to preserve and promote cultural relics related to the Great Wall, the Grand Canal and China's Long March in the revolutionary period.
According to the plan, construction of the parks will be completed in 2023 and an efficient management mechanism will be in place by then. Successful practices will be promoted in building other national cultural parks.
The parks will focus on four functional zones for cultural protection, themed exhibitions, cultural-tourism integration and utilization of traditional culture.
The plan also requires laws and regulations to be formulated and major infrastructure to be built to protect relevant cultural relics, enough funds to be directed to the project and favorable policies to be made to guarantee smooth implementation.
The Grand Canal, which is 2,700 kilometers long, runs through 35 cities from eight provinces and municipalities, including Beijing, Tianjin, Hebei, Shandong, Henan, Anhui, Jiangsu, and Zhejiang. It was built from 605 to 610 and was listed as a world heritage site in 2014.
