Numerous activities were held throughout Zhejiang province on Dec 31 to celebrate the New Year.
One such activity was a countdown ceremony held at Wulin Square in Hangzhou on the night of Dec 31, 2019. This has become a typical New Year celebration since the square first opened to the public in 2016.
"This is the first time we participated in the countdown. We are happy to see many positive changes in our hometown," said an 80-year-old local resident who attended the event with his wife.
Another activity consisted of several teachers and students performing cultural songs and dances at a local international school in Zhoushan on Dec 31.
A special party was also held that same day in a village in Jiashan, where several local artists taught children to paint pictures of farmers. The activity attracted more than 800 villagers.
Some Party members in a village in Wenzhou even volunteered to offer free haircuts and medical checks and write New Year couplets for local residents.
