Zhejiang University (ZJU) plans to develop its international campus in Haining, a county in Jiaxing, into a role model for how to carry out international cooperative education, local media reported on April 25.

The ZJU International Campus will focus on cooperating with institutes run by world-class universities and seeks to attract overseas high-level talent and educational resources.

The University of Edinburgh (UoE) and the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) established the ZJU－UoE Institute and ZJU－UIUC Institute at the Haining campus to offer dual-degree undergraduate and postgraduate education.

The two institutes boast the strongest sino-foreign cooperative education in China, and the Haining campus is also pioneering "one-to-many" cooperative education in the county, that is, to establish more than one institute with many international partners.

The international campus launched programs to recruit high-level talent from around the world. It is already home to many overseas teachers, 46 percent of whom have received a doctoral degree from one of the world's top 50 universities and 53 percent of whom are non-Chinese.

The campus also places importance on industry-university-research cooperation. In 2019, the ZJU International Joint Innovation Center was established at the international campus and works with both the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Education.

In 2013, construction on the ZJU International Campus began, and three years later, it started recruiting students. In 2019, development of the ZJU International Campus was included in the Outline of Regional Integration of the Yangtze River Delta Region, a national strategy.
