Zhoushan enterprise makes world's top 50 shipbuilder list
Tsuneishi Group (Zhoushan) Shipbuilding Co Ltd made the world's top 50 shipbuilder list in terms of compensated gross tonnage (CGT) of holding shipping orders as of the end of June this year.
A total of 26 Chinese shipbuilders made the list. The company based in Zhoushan ranked 28th in the world, while its ranking in China was 13th.
The holding orders of ships from the top 50 shipbuilders made up a staggering 76.9 percent of the global total.
As of the end of June, China's shipbuilding orders totaled 19.954 million CGT, accounting for 28.2 percent of the global total, according to data provided by global market researcher Clarkson Research Service.
The figures for South Korea and Japan stood at 19.385 million CGT and 4.461 million CGT respectively.
China's shipbuilding industry maintained its leading position globally in H1, according to the latest data from the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology.
The completion volume of shipbuilding in China slid 10.6 percent year-on-year to 17.58 million deadweight tons (DWT) in H1, accounting for 37.2 percent of the global market share.
New shipbuilding orders rose 3.4 percent from last year to 12.47 million DWT over the period, accounting for 67.5 percent of the global market share.
The volume of holding orders dropped 6.3 percent year-on-year to 76.54 million DWT, making up 48.2 percent of the global market share.
