Nearly 300 international students presented a Chinese cultural extravaganza in Hangzhou, capital of East China's Zhejiang province, on Dec 11.

The expat performers are currently studying at 13 Zhejiang-based universities, including Zhejiang University, the Communication University of Zhejiang, Zhejiang Normal University and Ningbo University.

"I will represent my university at the gala and I must do my best. To be a good host, I need to practice my Chinese and also learn some hosting techniques," Ngambou Lontsi Gervais, a Cameroonian student, told China Daily before the extravaganza.

Gervais has been studying engineering at Zhejiang Sci-Tech University since 2015 and was also a foreign host of the 2020 "Dreams Come True in Zhejiang" event.

The performances featured dragon dances, songs, recitals, dramas, and more items revolving around Chinese language and culture, most of which are inspired by the foreign students' experiences in the province.

During the evening gala, the "Beautiful Zhejiang" Overseas Students Short Videos Contest award ceremony was also held, with three first prizes going to the foreign students from Zhejiang Gongshang University and Zhejiang Sci-Tech University.

The Chinese cultural extravaganza and short videos contest were parts of the "Dreams Come True in Zhejiang" International Student Fairs themed on "Exploring Zhejiang for a Shared Future", which is an annual cultural event with a 13-year history.

On Dec 12, contest winners and expat performers toured Wuzhen, the permanent site of the World Internet Conference (WIC) in Tongxiang of Jiaxing, Zhejiang province, experiencing the ancient town's beautiful scenery and strength in digital economy.

Over the past decade the "Dreams Come True in Zhejiang" event has attracted thousands of international students from more than 40 universities who are interested in Chinese culture, and has provided them with a platform to showcase their talent.
